We love our cats (obviously). But, can anyone tell us why cats hate car rides so much and dogs just love them? Our cats pretty much sound like they are being murdered slowly for the entire drive. Yesterday that was an hour and a half.

- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
I am really conflicted on this one. I thought it was great most of the way. A story well-told. Beautiful set design. Sensuous at times. Sure, Cate's accent was sometimes a little off, but I love her so who cares. What I couldn't abide, and what ultimately really ruined it, was a) BB leaving his wife and daughter because he thought he couldn't raise her. Uhm, he was still about 47 at the time, at least, and so he had a good 30 years left to raise her before he got really bad. b) The math was wrong. If you are going to do a movie like this, good on ya, but the math has to work. If he is 49 when she is 43, she has to be in her late seventies when he is in his early teens. That clearly was not the case. I know I am picky and it might be a simple thing to let mar the movie, but if it's so simple, then they should have just done it right! - Midnight Express
Wow, this movie was pretty intense. I don't know if it was particularly well done as a piece of creative art (esp. knowing they now regret how they portrayed Turkish people), but it was emotional and kinda horrifying. I'm glad we've watched a lot of episodes of Locked Up Abroad, which helped prepare us for this. Between the movie and now that TV show, I'm simply stunned that people are willing to serve as mules for this. 4 stars for the drama and horror, not so much for the execution of a "real story". - The Kite Runner
Nicely done adaptation! I think it captured the spirit of the book about 99%. And because movies are so much more realistic, it actually was more emotional than the book, I thought. The concluding scene was absolutely perfect. In other books or movies I would scoff and say it was cheesy, but this was pitch perfect. So rare to like a movie after having read the book it was based on, especially such a short time ago. Double points for that! - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
HP movies are always good. We love the series so much, it's hard not to love it, even when it isn't the greatest. The movie was fine, it seemed to have hit all the important plot points (hard to fit so much into so little time), but it felt a little rushed (at, what, 2.5 hours?) like it was just trying to squeeze everything in. It just wasn't as magical as the first few. It's a lot darker, which is appropriate and makes sense, but there was less soul to it than earlier movies. And even for fans like us, it was hard to keep up, as they just went from point to point. We didn't re-read the book ahead of time, so we were just trying to make sense of everything as we went along and it was tough. Overall, maybe my least favorite of the movies, but I will still probably ask for it for xmas and watch it tons more times.

I would attribute it to the little known fact that cats are the spawn of the devil and, given the opportunity, will do anything in their power to make a person's life miserable.
Dogs on the other hand are the worldly manifestation of angels. They were sent here to help people live a good life.

I have to agree with Sam. When we got to my dad's house to pick up Akila, she saw us, meowed really loudly several times, and turned around, opened his kitchen cabinet with her paw and climbed in and hid from us! She knew a car ride was coming and she was not happy.
Everything I read, though, just says cats have a lot of anxiety about cars due to the noise and smell and motion. I just don't understand why those same things don't bother dogs. Cats seem to be much more cautious about the unknown than dogs.

you know i don't think that my position is incompatible with shane's. smart does not necessary conflict with bad and dumb is not entirely incompatible with good. so dogs = dumb + good, cats = smart + bad.
we might generalize to say the smarter the animal, the more inherently bad...
