Like Water for Chocolate
This movie seemed a lot like a fairy tale, like Cinderella or something. It had this air of magic and moral lessons. It was actually pretty cheesy. We watched it to keep our spanish up, but weren't quite brave enough to forego the subtitles, so we were lazy and didn't get any practice at all.
The Strangers
One of the best thrillers I've seen in a long time. Almost as good as Saw. Definitely more tense. My shoulders ached afterwards from tensing up so much. It was much more about the suspense than about blood and gore, which I appreciate. It's taking a real chance getting a horror/thriller movie nowadays, but this one was a pleasant surprise. If you want to be scared, this will do it.
Fuel
This is a documentary about fossil fuels vs. other types of fuel. It's very informative and not inflammatory, really. It has a good story-line and is hopeful in the end about utilizing other sources of fuel in time to avoid a disaster from our overdependence on fosill fules. Although it still leaves you wondering, "can this happen? Will this happen?"
The Town
Pretty cool movie. It wasn't just your normal action adventure type, but a step above. Nice that it didn't have a perfectly tied-up-with-a-bow happy ending. The only thing that didn't make sense at all was why they would tell the druggie sister about their plan!

Two Awesome Halloween Costumes

Jeff and I did not dress up this year. Halloween came and went with nary a peep, except on FB where everyone posts pictures of every costume. I saw that some people dressed as the 1% or the 99%, the timely costume of the year. One mortgage company that has been processing a lot of foreclosures decided to dress as their customers, which everyone, apparently, thought was a fantastic idea. An example of synergy run amok.

I have just two things to share with Bandwagon readers and with posterity. The first is perhaps the best baby costume. And you know if I am picking it, that it must have an element of snark or satire (click to enlarge and get the full effect):

Maggie is a good friend from Chi O who I have been lucky to get to know in the past few years. She had her baby, Edward, in June. One extra reason I love this picture is that Maggie and Danny are foodies just like us, and somehow we have been unable to schedule a trip to their hometown of Chicago where we have been promised an excellent gastronomic tour. Hopefully next year, which will give them time for Teddy to become a little more independent!

Our next pic goes to our favorite dog, Foxy Brown! She was dressed as un platano for Halloween this year, and she is so cute I just want to gobble her up!
